Das Buch Die Macht der guten Gefühle: Wie eine positive Haltung Ihr Leben dauerhaft verändert von Barbara Fredrickson hat mich sehr begeistert und unterstützt mich immer wieder bei meiner Arbeit als Coach.
Positivity doesn’t mean to neglect problems but to truly feel positive emotions, like joy, gratitude, serenity, interest, hope, pride, amusement, inspiration, awe and love. Research shows that positivity can prolong life, broadens the mind, builds good mental habits, social connections, creativity and resilience. She shows that a ratio of three positive emotions to one negative emotion is the tipping point to harvest the benefits of positivity. For teams, this ratio is 6:1 to flourish and to achieve high-productivity and customer satisfaction.
In the second part of the book, Barbara Fredrickson offers several ways to improve ones personal positivity level. For one, it helps to reduce negativity, for example by interrupting negative thinking, by checking ones media consumption, by reducing gossiping and sarcasm, and by dealing with negative people around you. Then one can increase positivity by finding positive meaning, by providing kindness, by following ones passion and dream about a better future, by applying ones strengths and connecting with others and with nature, and by opening ones mind and heart.
Most importantly, positivity feels good, it builds resources and resilience and everyone can raise their positivity ratio. Let’s do it!
